T-Mobile Thinks Their Galaxy S 4G Is Faster Than Your iPhone, If Not They Will Give You A Thousand Bucks
T-Mobile USA, Inc. today issued a challenge to Seattle-area iPhone owners: If your iPhone beats our Galaxy S 4G smartphone in a speed test, you’ll get $1,000. iPhone owners who bring their phones into participating T-Mobile retail locations in the Seattle area April 29 through May 1 can take part in the T-Mobile Speed Challenge. iPhone owners will compete in a head-to-head, best-of-three test against the Galaxy S 4G using a free third-party application. If the download speeds on the iPhone beat those on the Galaxy S 4G two out of three times, T-Mobile will give the iPhone owner $1,000.
At this point we have to ask what do you have to lose if you live in the Seattle area? The fact that T-Mobile is making this challenge in a specific area leads me to believe that they are pretty sure that in the participating area the Galaxy S can outperform the iPhone two out of three times or else this would be a bad bet. What it is though is brilliant marketing and will no doubt get thousands of eager folks into T-Mobile stores that otherwise would never walk into one. Smooth move, T-Mobile. It’s these kinds of antics that I will miss if the AT&T purchase of T-Mobile goes through.
