zkgpsnlogoSo we told you we would update you as soon as we got an update from Sony about why PSN was down, and we just got our first update in since early yesterday. Sony’s Patrick Seybold wrote this message on the PS Blog just a few minutes ago:

An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th. Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority. We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience. We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share.

So there you have it folks, Sony has brought PlayStation Network and Qriocity serviced down in order to try to evaluate the problem. They still haven’t given any timeframe as to when service will be restored. In the meantime, you can check out our Top 5 Things To Do While PlayStation Network Is Down. If hackers are the issue then I understand Sony doing what they did but I sure wish they would have just told us this on Wednesday, don’t you? As always we will keep you up to date as this progresses.
