Nintendo DS Losing Sales As Android & iOS Took 34% Of Portable Video Games Sales In The U.S. Last Year
A recent report from Flurry, shows the effect that Android and iOS devices are having on the Nintendo DS’ video game sales in the United States. Last year, Google and Apple accounted for 34% of video game sales, which almost doubled the 19% they accounted for in 2009. According to the report, “ iOS and Android games now represent more than one third of the portable game category.”
What has this done to the Nintendo DS? In 2009, the DS had an astounding 70% of all video games sales. Last year, that number was down to 57%. Additionally, the writing is on the wall for Sony Playstation Portable as well. Sony’s numbers dropped from 11% to 9%.
Honestly, I only see this getting worse when the results of this year or announced next year. Verizon has picked up the iPhone 4, Android is continuing to surge, and the Xperia Play (Playstation Phone) will add to the Android dominance. I guess we’ll just have to see!
