While PlayStation Move still isn’t Xbox Kinect, these latest numbers prove it’s no slouch. Sony Computer Entertainment America has just announced that more than 8 million units of the PlayStation Move motion controller for the PS3 system have been sold worldwide as of April 3, 2011.
The introduction of the PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter peripheral for the PS3 system, which houses both the PlayStation Move motion controller and PlayStation Move navigation controller, is also achieving exceptional sales numbers. Despite limited supply, the PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter saw 40% attachment with the Killzone 3 game among key retailers. The supply issues have hurt the sharp shooter but a 40% attach rate to a shooter is impressive, if they can get the supply issues resolved by the time we see Battlefield 3 or the next Call Of Duty the sales could be even more impressive. To be fair clear though, DICE has said they are “considering” PlayStation Move support and the next COD hasn’t even been formally announced.
Oh yeah, Sony says they have sold over 50 million PS3 systems sold worldwide, that gap between the PS3 and both the Xbox 360 and the Wii continue to close. Tick tock.
