HTC Thunderbolt 4G & HTC EVO 4G To Receive Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update By The End Of June

Share And Comment

It looks like an HTC Representative has confirmed to a customer that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for Verizon’s HTC Thunderbolt 4G and Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G, will be delivered by the end of June (End of Q2). While this should come as good news for owners of these devices, you can’t help but wonder how likely it is, considering all of the delays with Android updates from carriers in the past. However, HTC has a pretty good record of updating their devices compared to the other manufacturers. That said, we are excitedly expecting this update with our heart’s reservations. Check out the email that was sent below! After reading it, be sure to let us know what you think! Believing any of it?

Good question, Derek! We understand how important it is to have the
latest updates for your device.

I’m happy to inform you that both the Evo and the Thunderbolt are
definitely on our list to receive the 2.3 Android OS update.
At this time, we don’t have an exact launch date, nor are we .
However, we estimate that it will be available in the second quarter
of 2011 (anywhere from the beginning of April, to the end of June),
assuming that there are no major setbacks. Once we have a better idea
of when this update will be available for your phone, we’ll be sure to
announce it through Facebook ( and Twitter
(, and of course,

We’re not aware of any immediate plans for a tablet for the Verizon
network. However, The Evo View will also have a wi-fi only version
that you will be able to purchase through Best Buy.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us, Derek.
