THQ has confirmed that it has laid of a total of 30 employees between Homefront developer Kaos Studios and Red Faction developer Volition. While we never like to hear about anybody getting laid off this isn’t that uncommon of an occurrence and Volition is still one of THQ’s top internal studios developing such popular franchises including Saints Row and Red Faction. Even at Kaos the response doesn’t seem to be related to the issues with Homefront because even with those issues the game has still sold a lot of copies.
THQ said through a statment that “”We have had to let go of 16 employees at Volition, our studio in Champaign, Illinois”. “We must adjust our workforce to fit the studio’s current needs, which is a relatively common occurrence in the game development industry.”
A rep from THQ reportedly confirmed that an email was sent out within the studios and that the layoffs happened March 29, affecting both new and established employees. According to the report about 220 employees remain at Volition and about 70 at Kaos. For you Homefront fans if their are any of you left, don’t worry THQ says that this will not affect Homefront’s support or its plans for DLC.
