By now we all know that the Apple iPad 2 will be announced on March 2, 2011. That’s what we wanted to hear. However, we did not and don’t want to hear that everyone won’t be able to get one at launch. If rumors coming from Digitimes are accurate, this is exactly the case.
According to their report, Apple had to reduced 1st quarter production for the iPad 2 by approximately 50%, taking them from between “400,000 and 600,000 units to between 300,000 and 400,000 units. Why? Apparently Apple is forced to deal with display panel shortages, as well as an in house decision to have a last minute spec change.
Hopefully this does not result in a problem for you and me, but it very well could. This could be the hottest device to hit the market this year. What a shame it would be not to be able to get one at launch. Will this affect your decision? Can Apple afford to have this mishap with pressure from the Android sleight of tablets? This may not even be true, but I’ll definitely be pre-ordering ASAP.
