dead-island4This has been buzzing ever since Deep Silver announced a new zombie horror IP called Dead Island. It wasn’t so much the game that got people talking because there was no game footage to speak of, but the trailer was hauntingly poignant to say the least. You can watch all 3+ minutes of that trailer here if you want to know what all the fuss is about. After that we don’t know from exactly where but people starting talking movie adaptation and it ran from there. Deep Silver has come out and said that they know that most movies based on games suck and therefore they would prefer to take their time and partner with the right studio to make sure the final product that is delivered is quality. We can respect that.

Deep Silver has said the key for the decision is a focus on the quality of the resulting motion picture: “We are looking for quality above all else for a movie based on Dead Island. We want to do it the right way as film realizations of games (or vice versa) usually fail to deliver what the fans were looking for. We will not go down this route with Dead Island. We would therefore be honored to work with someone who already has a proven track record with blockbuster movies.”

As a result, Deep Silver has received a massive amount of interest in the film adaptation rights to the Dead Island IP. Contrary to rumors that have been circulating, neither the film rights nor any other licenses have yet been sold. There you have it folks, not quite a done deal yet but expect this to get done in the next few weeks while the buzz from the trailer is still hot.
