Today, Verizon sent out an email to its current customers that informed them that they would in fact begin taking pre-orders for the Verizon iPhone 4 at 3AM EST next Thursday, February 3, 2011. When the iPhone 4 was announced for Verizon there was a note about current customers having their chance to get their hands on the iPhone 4 before anyone else and this supports that. This only applies to current VZW customers though, all you AT&T folks that want to switch will have to wait a whole week until the phone becomes available to everyone else on the 10th. There is no holding, Verizon is going to process pre-orders on a first come, first serve basis so if you want to get one early, you might just want to go to sleep early and then wake up to get your order in. The only question I have is Verizon’s website prepared for the possible flood of folks that will hit their website trying to purchase the phone, we hope so.
The whole 3AM thing seems to be really random, I suppose its to try and avoid the problem we just mentioned. By opening it early, they can kind of distribute the load on their servers and hopefully avoid crashes and unavailability. If your just a regular person you can place your pre-orders on the 3rd by visiting verizonwireless.com/iphoneorder, if your an enterprise customers then jump on over to verizonwireless.com/businessportals. So who’s waking up early to make sure they get their orders in?
