Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook Account Hacked, Why Facebook Needs To Get Serious About Security Now

Well the only thing I have to say about this is that I am surprised it took this long. According to reports, yesterday the Facebook account of Mark Zuckerberg was hacked. The hacker dropped in to leave a rather interesting rant on the state of Facebook and where he thinks it needs to go.

With the status update seemingly coming from Zuck himself the update got quite a few responses. By the time Facebook removed the update it had already got more than 1,800 likes and almost 500 comments. This whole situation goes back to my biggest problem with Facebook, they don’t seem to give a damn about real security and ensuring users privacy. Facebook says that it wants to be this underlying platform that everybody’s lives are centered around, well I got news for them what they are doing right now just won’t do. Why in the hell would we trust them with our most sensitive data when they don’t seem to really care about protecting it? I won’t deny that having one platform that integrated major parts of life like shopping and banking and travel would be great, but in order to do that you need to have security be at least comparable to that of the most sensitive thing your storing which in my scenario above would be bank information. That means that Facebook’s security needs to be AT LEAST as secure if not more secure than your average bank, if not then it will NEVER become what they envision it to be. Truth be told, there is nothing really special about Facebook besides most people are already there and its convenient. Sooner or later someone is going to get the idea to build a better Facebook, a more secure Facebook and you know what I would hang out there. Shoot, if any of you reading this are good developers give me a holler and maybe we can make something happen, I mean we can’t do any worse than Facebook with respect to privacy and security right?

Facebook needs to stop pulling an Apple when it comes to acting like the serious gaps in their security don’t exist. Just because you don’t acknowledge them doesn’t make them any less serious. But hey you know what I bet Zuckberg isn’t that rattled because he knows Facebook’s security is a joke and I’m willing to bet he doesn’t post anything on there that he wouldn’t mind the world finding out about because he knew that one day they probably would. Ah, Facebook the technology is already out there that can fix this problem, so take a few million of that billion you just collected and fix this crap.
