You heard us right, we said it. When Mass Effect 2 finally drops for PS3 next week, you can either buy it on disc at your favorite local retailer or you can buy it and download it on PSN. If you haven’t played the demo for this yet, what’s wrong with you fool? I hate to say it but on this one the 360 fanboys had it right, ME2 is looking like its going to be epic for more than a few reasons. PlayStation Plus subscribers can also download and play the full game trial (60 minutes of play time) starting on Jan 18 (so if your PS Plus and still not sure, download it and get a feel for it before you buy it, the download will be 12GB though so keep that in mind if you have a slow connection).
“Evil” Chris Priestly, Community Coordinator, BioWare stopped by the PS Blog to fill the community in on a few more details. In Mass Effect 2, you play as Commander Shepard who has to lead a crack team of mercenaries, scientists and soldiers on a mission to investigate the disappearances of human colonies throughout the galaxy. Who lives, who dies and the ultimate success or failure of the mission, is up to you. According to BioWare, PS3 owners will appreciate that this is not just some simple port. This was a major concern we had and though the demo pretty much convinced us that it wouldn’t be its good to hear BioWare say it. The Mass Effect team said that they have taken the time to utilize the PS3 hardware to the fullest in order to maximize our gameplay experience, guess we will find out next week. The team also said that they worked on making the controls feel natural for the PS3 controller as well as ensuring that in-game graphics and cinematics were superior to their 360 counterparts. As an added bonus, the PS3 version includes previously released DLC missions: Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker and Kasumi for free, PS3 owners had to wait longer but we definitely got the better end of this deal.
For folks who like action but also enjoy games where your decisions matter then this is the game for you. But you probably didn’t even need to read this post to know you were buying ME2, but now we wonder HOW are you going to buy it, retail disc or digital download?
