According to several sources the eighth installment in franchise will be called Silent Hill: Downpour for from what we hear very obvious reasons. Silent Hill is one of those gaming franchises that has had its ups and downs kind of like Resident Evil, but man when it delivers it really delivers.
The information on this installment has come to us courtesy of information leaked from the latest edition of GameInformer. From that info we now know that Downpour will take place in the Southeastern part of Silent Hill, this is an area that was viewable on the map in previous games but up until now has not been accessible. It has also been implied that the city of Downpour itself will be quite large, possibly having a subway system that players can use to get around. A reader over at NeoGAF has said that water will play a major role in the game including “bizarre water effects [that] look like an upside down river flowing across a ceiling”. Conversely though it seems that some of the more prominent locations such as schools and hospitals won’t be much of a factor this time around. It seems that the combat system will be rather dynamic, where in some situations it will benefit the player to injure their enemies and then flee in order to weaken them vice trying to take them out at full strength. We also hear that some of the boss battles will make use of QuickTime Events made famous by games like God Of War and Shenmue. While their hasn’t been much talk about the game since the original teaser trailer, the word on the street is that there just might be a demo coming our way very soon that takes place on the dangerous outskirts of Silent Hill. The demo will reportedly contain side quest and no weapon inventory, you will have to make due with what you can find, gotta love that.
Well that’s all we’ve got for you know folks, but stay tuned to ZoKnowsGaming for all your latest gaming news. Silent Hill: Downpour is slated for the release on both the PS3 and 360 sometime this year.
