That’s right folks, its that time again. Time for the team here to give out our awards for the best games of 2010 across several categories. As with all awards, everyone won’t agree on everything, heck even internally we didn’t quite have consensus on every category but that’s when the boss comes into quash debates that we just can’t seem to agree on. Anyway, I think this is a great set of games that we choose this year and judging from all the recent announcements it looks like 2011 might just be even better.
So without further ado, let’s jump right into it.
On this one we had several differing opinions with folks voting for everything from Rock Band 3 to Halo Reach. With no consensus, I had to be the tie breaker on this one and I voted for..DJ Hero 2. Rock Brand 3 was great and Halo Reach was epic, but I don’t think there is any denying that DJ Hero 2 delivered across the board and with all the additional music being added via DLC, I think it’s a more than worthy choice here.
Again, the staff was divided between games like FIFA 11, Madden NFL 11 and even EA Sports MMA. While those were all great games, I think most of us will agree that there is no denying that the best sports game this year by far was NBA 2K11. The game was almost flawless and was considered by many including myself to be possibly the best sports game EVER.
Almost more than any other year this was a tough one, there were so many gorgeous looking games. I mean when you think about Final Fantasy XII, God Of War 3, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit and this list just goes on. I was torn here because there were so many deserving games but I had to agree with one of my writers on this one and give the award to God Of War 3. This game was freaking epic and since it came out so early in the year its easily forgotten, but this was how you end a trilogy. The game was gorgeous and Sony Santa Monica pushed the PS3 to the very limits of what it could do and I don’t know if anyone since has even come close.
People always ask us what’s the difference between graphics and artistry and it’s always hard to answer except to say that you know it when you see it. It has much more to do with how the game is stylized and presented than necessarily the overall quality of the graphics themselves, though most games with excellent graphics could be considered for this one. With no consensus on this one, I was again forced to break the tie and it was tough. With that said, I agree with one of my guys that Final Fantasy XII was a good choice here.
