Yesterday, Take Two Interactive released their financial earnings information and it was notable as much for what was in it as what wasn’t. Take Two confirmed multiple titles that have already been announced including L.A. Noire and Duke Nukem Forever. In addition Take Two reported improved financial results powered by strong sales of games including NBA 2K11, Mafia II, Red Dead Redemption, and Sid Meier’s Civilization V among others.
While looking at the list there were some noticeable omissions including Max Payne 3 and sadly there was no sign of a new Grand Theft Auto on the way either. Management took special care to note though that they had achieved a goal of profitability in a year without the release of another installment of Grand Theft Auto. This was a good year for Take Two and they needed that because folks were starting to call them a one trick pony, but with the amazing success of Red Dead Redemption they have proven that they can do just fine without GTA, though I don’t suggest they try that for too long.
Before you go cursing Take Two, we did notice a bit of a play on words in the release. The section with the upcoming release schedule was caveated by the words “Take-Two’s lineup of future titles announced to date includes:”, the key words there are “announced to date”. This leaves the door open for a GTA V announcement since they haven’t actually announced it yet so technically it wouldn’t have to be on this list, it may be a stretch but hey we gotta hope right.
The list as announced is below:
- L.A. Noire (Xbox 360, PS3) – Spring 2011
- Top Spin 4 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii) – Fiscal 4Q 2011
- Major League Baseball 2K11 (Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, PC) – Fiscal 4Q 2011
- Duke Nukem Forever (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) – Calendar Year 2011
- Spec Ops: The Line (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) – Fiscal Year 2012
- XCOM (Xbox 360, PC) – Fiscal Year 2012
- BioShock Infinite (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) – Calendar Year 2012
