Square Enix has announced in a statement today that it is postponing the release of Final Fantasy XIV (also known as Final Fantasy Online) for the PS3 for an undetermined period of time. Despite being the gold standard of RPG’s, this latest installment didn’t do so well when it was originally released on PC earlier this year.
In their release Square said that ” rather than simply converting the current Windows PC version, it is our intention to include all the improvements we currently plan to meet customer expectations for the PS3™ version. In order to do so, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the release timing of the PS3 version from our previous plan of early March 2011. The new release date will be announced swiftly upon final determination.”
While as gamers we are disappointed to hear about this delay, we understand the logic. It’s kind of the same thing that EA did with NBA Elite 11, except Square Enix didn’t completely cancel Final Fantays XIV for PS3…yet.
