You heard us right, U.K. electronics retailer Richer Sounds, is now selling a 22” Sony HDTV with a PlayStation 2 built in. According to their Twitter feed, it will retail for 200 pounds or roughly $300. Even 10 years later it seems that the PS2 is still going strong and shows no sign of slowing down. Last time we checked the PS2 was still the top selling gaming console period, outselling both the Xbox 360 and PS3 combined and at $99 it’s not hard to see why.
It’s called the Sony Bravia KDL-22PX300, the TV set sits atop the built-in PlayStation 2. The HDTV comes with 4 HDMI ports, 3 USB ports (although two of them are USB 1.1), and two Ethernet connections. The set itself features a 1,366×768 resolution, which is good but that means it doesn’t support full 1080p for all you true HD heads out there. The set can also serve up video from Sony’s Bravia service over Ethernet or an optional wireless dongle. The TV is fully integrated with the PS2, which means you can play all your PS2 games as well as all the original PSOne games on this baby.
Now here’s the downside, according to a company spokesman, Sony has no “plans to bring anything like the [KDL-22PX300] to market [in the U.S.]”. To be honest I can’t see why, it’s a functional enough bundle that I could see it catching on in the U.S., but for now its U.K. only.
