Microsoft Whispers At Possible TV Subscription Plan

Reuters today received a tip from two insiders – staying unnamed – that Microsoft has been meeting with several media companies, in the hopes of licensing television companies to stream their shows through the Xbox 360. Originally, there was talk back in April when Microsoft executives proposed an option to allow subscribers to watch shows of their choosing for an additional dollar or so a month.

While the prospect of a “Xbox TV” may be more than a year or so out, Microsoft stepping into the entertainment-streaming field adds big hopes. Adding interactive elements for the given shows, it would work something like the recently added ESPN attachment. Plus, grabbing groups and shows that other companies like Hulu and Netflix do not otherwise have yet, will give Microsoft a fair advantage in the entertainment field.

So would it be worth having another streaming media server on your Xbox, or do you think you have enough with your other services? Do you expect it to go anywhere, or just another CEO pipe-dream?
