Some of you are asking why in the world would I want to do that? You heard us right folks, Microsoft is doing what they do best and that’s making it stupid easy for you to only have to use their product to do everything you need to do. This one is aimed directly at Yahoo, Gmail, and any other service that competes with Hotmail.
The new capability will allow Hotmail users to add accounts from other Web mail services and then get that all their mail in the standard Hotmail interface. To make it even easier for you, if you signed up with another non-Hotmail email address when you registered then that account will now automatically show up as an account you can link up. Once you set up you your other accounts you can not only read and search through your messages, you can respond from Hotmail through your Yahoo or Gmail account. The feature uses POP, meaning that whatever changes are made in Hotmail don’t make an impact on things like read count or organization back on the source account.
Microsoft is billing the new send from account feature as a way to make use of Hotmail’s specialty features, which includes spam filtering, media sharing, and the mass deletion and reorganization tool it’s dubbed as “sweep”–all without having to leave whatever account you’re already using. Now to be honest with you, this isn’t new or even that difficult and you can already do it with Gmail and Yahoo I believe but its nice to see MS finally catching up. I do like the new “sweep” feature which is like mass delete+spam filtering all at once. The new feature is rolling out now and should be available everywhere soon.
