With great success comes fantastic dividends, and in Chillingo’s case… they have been reaping the benefits all the way to the bank. After hits like Angry Birds and their latest Cut The Rope on the iPhone and iPad, the independent developer has been taken under the EA wing for an impressive $20 million. This pushes EA Mobile into one of the largest mobile developers currently on the market, biting at the heels of Apple.
The question at hand is what kind of developer backlash will come from an independant going to “big-business” like EA. Most companies tend to have fear of losing what made them unique, and Chillingo is no exception.
Thankfully, EA is looking out for the little guys, promising “to preserving Chillingo’s independence enabling them to manage and cultivate their great network of relationships to deliver the optimal gaming experience for consumers.”
