Again, gadget whore here. Though I still have enough dignity to not actually ride a Segway around in public, I can’t say I don’t want to.
That said, an unfortunate event regarding the owner of the company that manufactures the love-’em-or-hate-’em devices occurred around 11:40 AM GMT, Sunday, Sept. 26th, when Jimi Heselden was found dead in the Boston Spa area.So far, it appears that the man who made the majority of his fortune on defense contracts suffered an accident from rolling his ruggedized Segway off a cliff into the River Wharfe below. Police were quoted as saying that they “[did] not believe the death to be suspicious.”
I’m assuming the man had an eye for at least some technology, as the Segway is a relatively niche device. Heselden, pictured below, was 62 and reported to be worth £166m. Who will take the reigns of the company now and will it affect the Segways in any way? We’ll have to see.
