In the video below, CNET TV counts down the top 5 gadgets that people who own an iPad no longer need. The results of their poll come from current iPad owners, 37% of which had never owned an Apple device or “were totally new to Apple” as CNET Executive Editor Molly Wood put it.
Now the fact that gaming consoles came in at #5 on the list says something, but we still aren’t sold on the results. The truth is that gamers that buy iPads, still would never give up their gaming consoles. Therefore, we have to assume the folks that responded with game consoles have to be casual gamers at best. Coming in at #4 was the original game changer, the iPod or any MP3 player. We have a problem with this one, people who buy MP3 players like that generally like to have them when they are exercising or mobile and we just don’t see you pumping iron or getting your cardio in while lugging the big iPad around. Though a surprising 29% of respondents said they no longer needed there iPod. 32% of folks said they didn’t need item #3, which was comprised of laptops/netbooks. This one isn’t surprising, but the death of the laptop and more recently the netbook has been predicted more than one time before so we aren’t exactly shocked by this one.
Portable gaming devices came in at number 2 with 38%. This one we can actually believe, most portable gaming systems are purchased for kids and the iPad can support lots of the type of games that kids would like, and in that respect the iPad’s multitasking capability comes in handy.
And coming with a whooping 49% of iPad users saying they didn’t need it now that they have the iPad is the… well we won’t ruin it for you, check the vid to find out.
So now that you have seen the countdown, what do you think? You saw how we feel about it, we don’t know who CNET polled by it – had to be an eclectic group. You know what, lets do our own poll. Give us your list of the 5 Gadgets that you think the iPad makes obsolete, post your list in the comments.
