Samsung Fascinate owners have been living in a world where when it comes to search they have been stuck in a Googleless world, at least when it comes to the popular native search application. The reason behind this is that Verizon has committed to a multi-device agreement with Microsoft to promote Bing by making it the default and at times exclusive search option on several of their devices.
Up until recently it wasn’t known whether or not users would be able to add their search engine of choice, but according to reports a Verizon Wireless representative has confirmed that once the Fascinate is updated to Android 2.2 (Froyo), users will be able to download the Google Search application. But as with most things involving Microsoft, there’s a catch. Even after you install the Google Search application you will not be able to change the default search setting from Bing to Google, and the search button will always trigger a Bing search. Personally, we hate not being able to fully customize our own devices but I guess having it is better than not having it at all right?
