This game is not to be taken lightly. I remember the first time I tried the demo. “This is lame” I thought. “Dynasty Warriors rehash” I thought. So I did what I would usually do. I skipped the movies, I skipped the controls screen. “I just want to kill people” I thought. And I did. I killed tons of soldiers. And then I went to the next squad and killed more. When I got to one of the bosses, I lost. And I felt cheated, like I would have to do the whole thing again. So I did the whole thing again. And I lost again. So I switched characters and had the same result only quicker. I put the control down unsatisfied.
Next morning I read the controls, and I figured out the attacks. And I used them and they worked. And it was fun. And it was satisfying to beat the boss to a pulp. It was worth it. Then I switched characters and was awed by the difference in experience. This second character wasn’t about hacking and slashing. It was about evading the big guy while penetrating the army’s defenses. And then he was weak. And it was his turn to run. Now I put down the controller, and I am satisfied.
