All rumors and leaked documents now point to Thursday, August 12, 2010 as the release date for the Motorola Droid’s successor, Droid 2. This will be the third major Droid release in less than six months (Droid Incredible, Droid X, & Droid 2).
The specs for Droid 2 are pretty amazing:
- Froyo Android 2.2 on release
- Adobe Flash 10.1 Support
- 1Ghz OMAP Processor
- Dedicated GPU
- Dual Flash, 5MP Camera
- Mobile Hotspot for VZW 3G Service
- Blockbuster App
- 8GB of Onboard Memory
- Physical & Virtual QWERTY Keyboard, Swype, and Voice-to-Text
Here is an image from Droid-Life with this information as it compares to other smartphones, including the iPhone & the HTC EVO.
It’s truly amazing to see how fast Android is populating the market with quality devices. Verizon Wireless has basically solidified Android as the top operating system for its’ smartphones. So current, new, and potential VZW customers, which will you buy? Whether it’s the Droid Incredible (my favorite), the Droid X (largest screen size), the LG Ally (sometimes forgotten), or the Droid 2 (physical keyboard), I don’t think you will go wrong.
