System 3, the London-based company set with the game right to Ferrari: The Game Experience, has announced today that they are taking their first steps into the AAA game market, guaranteeing complete revenue return and zero wastage. Taking the plunge into Digital Downloads, System 3 is hoping to start the digital trend fully, refusing to produce a single disc for their upcoming game, heading out the pipe sometime in September.
Without the need for physical media, System 3 means to save product and production cost without filling up a warehouse, shelves, or a coffee table with an untouched game. Taking their upcoming release on the PlayStation 3, they mean to utilize the PSN for the full game, circumventing the potential drop-off of sales, especially after setting up the vast amounts of money and effort to guarantee that an in-store product will sell well initially. If it works well, not only will System 3 make a fancy product, it will also potentially turn the tide for other major companies and their future releases. We’ll have to find out come September.
