Harmonix has officially announced the feature set to be included in Rock Band 3. The game boasts an 83-song setlist and access to far more music than any other music game, as well as innovative new gameplay modes and instruments. This next iteration in the Rock Band platform has something new for everyone and also supports traditional Rock Band gameplay with players’ existing instruments.

The Rock Band 3 soundtrack contains 83 of the best bands from around the world, including bands that have never appeared in a music game before, as well as support for all existing Rock Band tracks. It will also give players immediate access to a music library approaching 2,000 songs by launch, with new content added regularly.  Some of the tracks announced include ‘The Hardest Button To Button’ by The White Stripes, ‘Walkin’ On The Sun’ by Smash Mouth, ‘Crazy Train’ by Ozzy Osbourne, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen and ‘Crosstown Traffic’ by Jimi Hendrix.

Other features include a redesigned music library which allows players to create and save their own set lists, includes new song filters and a song recommendation system. An expansion of the band also featured, with the inclusion of the three-part vocals harmonies introduced in Rock Band: The Beatles and a brand new keyboard peripheral. Up to seven players can now rock out together.

Is it enough though to warrant yet another addition to the Rock Band series or are we just getting a rehash of the older versions, with a few new shiny extra features? Let us know what you think.

I live in the UK, I am 23 years old and have been a gamer all my life. I studied psychology, sociology, english literature and IT in college and went on to study psychology and IT in university. Aside from gaming my greatest passions are rock music, reading and writing. In my spare time I am a novelist, I write a mixture of science fiction and fantasy, and I also keep an autobiographical account of my life although at present I am unpublished.
