Last night I decided to try out the new feature which they could make a little easier by making that advertisement for it when you first log in clickable, so that could take you straight there instead of having to figure out that you have to scroll all the way to the top and switch to video I mean come on Sony, ease of use and UI are everything but anyway back to the service.
So you can buy or rent movies and TV shows. In my previous post I said that if this was good and the download times weren’t outrageous, it could work. As soon as I heard it I was like this is going to be the PS3’s most killer app. So how does it do?
From what I can tell awesome. Last night I bought “21”, for which it instantly sent me a receipt and then I downloaded it over a wireless connection no less in a little over 30 minutes. Since it is running in the background just like anything else, I streamed some music from my pc to my PS3 like I always do and it was awesome, but you could just as easily have been playing another game. I am sure you could probably get even better speeds over a wired connection but in any case it seems to have passed the test. I will admit though that because of the size difference in SD and HD movies, times could be much longer for HD depending on what else you are doing on your network. I mean you don’t get the special features or anything and I must admit that I was kind of igged about the fact that their were no subtitles (hey I just like to have them, uh uh Sony) not to mention all the hearing impaired gamers out there. But hey for $14.99, not having to waste gas to go to the movie store and get it, time in which I took to make some homemade pizza, its not a bad deal. Like I said I don’t so much care about the special features but I do think the lack of subtitles may prove to be a big deal if they don’t fix it but it is an easy fix. So it now has my ZoKnowsGaming seal of approval, go out and download away.
