More than any other title for the PS3 I was awaiting Assassin’s Creed. It was to be the flagship title, the first truly blockbuster game for PlayStation’s next-gen gaming console. It wasn’t. But all is not lost, AC has moments within the gameplay that have never been seen in a video game before, parts that are truly amazing. The controls are all perfect, Altair the character you play moves and feels real. The Freerun system in the game is executed to perfection. It could have been all that everyone thought it would be except for the discombobulating story and the monotonous gameplay.
So I wont spoil the game for those of you that haven’t played it yet but just know that while the story in itself is ok the way it is told could have been done much better. Even after beating the game you will still have only a vague understanding of what was really happening, guess they will have to save that for the sequel and with the way this one ended there will have to be. The story itself is here and there and everywhere, and if they are implying what I think they are implying at the end of the game well oh boy they are really out there now.
Now don’t let me forgot the gameplay. In all the gameplay is fabulous, well except for those pesky investigations of which you have to repeat the same ones each time you want to assassinate someone. I would have preferred an option to either investigate or not and take my chances under the consequence that they may be tipped off to me coming or prepare a trap. That would have broken the monotony, because by the fourth or fifth assassination you are like not again. It’s very redundant, but I guess they had to make the game longer.
All that aside AC is a very solid game, not the home run I was looking for but a deep fly ball none the less. I would play the game just for the assassinations which are awesome. If I had to buy AC again I probably would but I would be much less excited. For me I give it a solid 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.
